Description:

I purchased this brooch about 40 years ago from an estate sale along with other golfing memorabilia.  It is beautifully crafted from sterling silver marking a golfer breaking a score of 100.  The initials H.G.C. stand for the prestigious Hackensack Golf Club of which the decedent was a long time member.  The daughter was present at the estate sale and informed me that her father broke the score of 100 at the club's course just prior to WW2 breaking out in Europe.

The Hackensack Golf Club was founded in 1899 and is one of the oldest private golf clubs in the United States.   It is located in Oradell, New Jersey.

The barrel clasp works perfectly.   The back is marked "Sterling" and the piece has beautiful patina characteristic of aged silver.

Another year, another flood.

I made the annual trek a couple of weeks ago just before things got REALLY bad.

Crank up the volume:

SNOWDOMES

Big snows make for nice winter pictures, but little snows have an accentuating charm all their own.

I had to get these early this morning before the sun came out and melted all the snow.

Sepia would give it a brown or reddish-brown cast. I just put it in iPhoto and moved the saturation slide all the way to zero to make it B&W.

Hackensack History / Re: Hendrix at George's Club 20 (Hackensack)
« on: March 23, 2011, 06:33:56 PM »
At the end of the song, the narrator confirms the December 26 date, but says it's 1964 instead of 1965.

In all the discussions regarding the date, I've never heard 1964 mentioned before.

There's also a scroll during the song that says it was recorded at The Manhattan in 1964 - even though the narrator identifies the location as George's both at the beginning and the end of the song.

Nothing like making up new errors and creating even more confusion where plenty already existed, is there?

My reference to a light meter was tongue in cheek.

I know. ;)

Here's a sequence I shot a couple of weeks ago. It's just a plane coming into Teterboro, but it sure doesn't look like it.

(maybe I shouldn't have said what it was)
