Nice lot of old Bergen County photographs.  Lot appears to be of Herring Family with two of the five photos from Van Wagner Studio and one from J.A. Williams Photo Studio of Hackensack, NJ.  Photos were found in an old home in Closter, NJ.  Three (man w/ dog, young man with stick, doctor) photos have pencil/fountain pen markings on rear identifying the individuals.  The photo of the house appears to be of a Bergen County Dutch sandstone or Dutch Colonial that are typically found in the area.

The store and its Bank of America branch will close on April 15 (or so the teller told me today).

I'm guessing the pharmacy must have already closed, because they started taking its sign down as I was leaving.

After taking off for a 3-day weekend, Hammy was at his usual post when I got up this morning, so I took some pictures right away.

Remember when I said I needed some variety from him, like a new outfit or something? I think he heard me because today he was sporting a glamorous feathery beak boa in white.

Ladies and gentlemen, it's Hammy Ga-Ga!

I was so shocked that I didn't notice some schmutz on his beak until after he took off most of the boa. I'm not sure what that was, but I'll bet it had something to do with the boa's owner.

He wouldn't say who that owner was, but I found a clue after he left. It was probably this guy:

http://cgi.ebay.com/US-SHIP-3-PATRIOTIC-SOLDIER-LETTER-/360349832787?pt=LH_DefaultDomain_0&hash=item53e6861653

Description:

Cicil War Patriotic - soldier's letter - with US Ship 3 marking.  Franked at upper right by W Zabriski, Major, 9th Ct. I. Vol, and addressed to Miss Jennie Van Houten in Hackensack, NJ. Docketed on the back 1/3/1864.  The envelope is  somewhat faulty but is still a wonderful combination of elements and might be acceptable until something better comes along.

Seller refers to a "soldier's letter", but doesn't mention an actual letter or - if there IS one - what its contents might be.

I'm guessing it's just a cover - a $60 cover.

Update: seller informs me that there is no letter.

No.

Hackensack Roofing is on the southwest corner of First and Atlantic. The rink was on the northwest corner.
