Time for Ol’ Homer to give a recollection of the good days gone bye. Back in the early ‘80’s General Poors Retreat was owned by  the late George Brown a well known Hackensack attorney. George was heavily involved in Irish American activities.
On certain Saturday evenings George would bring in an Irish band and by 10:00 you couldn’t get into Poors. This was about 35 years ago when Main Street wasn’t exactly a hub of nighttime entertainment. Back in those days there was a Saint Patrick’s Day parade on Main Street and Poor’s was a focus of the parade revelry.
Ah, the good old days.

Sad thing is that “It ain’t gonna get any better.”

If that’s a rehab project, I would like to see what a clearance project looks like.

Perhaps you are confusing this photo with Neil Sedaka singing Stairway To Heaven.

Although I am sure that the nursing home residents shown in the photo have passed on, it looks like Ronald Squillace is the gentleman with the jacket and tie standing against the wall.

Isn’t Passaic Street a County Road? If I’m correct, the County would be the key player here.

I don’t believe it!!! A positive article about Hackensack.

They can park the ambulance in front of the Middle School to save response time.

If someone were trying to stop him from taking photos, he would have taken a photo of the person trying to stop him from taking photos and then posted that photo.

That painted McCrory sign from yesterday’s post can be photographed and lasered onto a plaque. Wouldn’t that look fantastic?

It would be nice if we could get the developers to spring for a grand or so to put plaques on the historic buildings and sites downtown. The City did that back in the 1970’s during it’s early redevelopment efforts. There were plaques installed on the old bank building at Main and Mercer. Hopefully these plaques were saved.

The developers of 210 Main should hang this photo in the lobby for old times sake.

Ol’ Homer remembers back in ‘84 when President Reagan spoke in front of the driveway arch in front of the City Hall complex on State Street, the Secret Service borrowed the “Worlds Largest Flag” that is hung on the GWB and hung it over 210 Main Street so that no potential shooter would have a clear shot at the President.
Someone must have a picture of that.

I don’t know if the phrase “395 Main Street rehab project” is accurate.

The renderings are somewhat confusing if you look at the Hekemian website. Perhaps the editor/ administrator of this website can ask Mr. Hekemian to superimpose the street names onto the renderings to clarify what building elevations front which streets. Should be simple enough.
