Hackensack Discussion / Re: Bad Ass Hawaiian Coffee shop coming to 50 Main St
« Last post by BLeafe on February 04, 2024, 06:20:03 PM »
Boy, they’re really hauling (bad) ass on that coffee shop, aren’t they?

Below is a picture I took today - it’s nowhere near ready.

And speaking of sloppy (haven’t we been all along?), check out the tape job on one of the windows.

Hiring? It better be construction workers.

Still not sure where it is? Click on the bottom PANO (and scroll) to get the full size. With a prime location like that, you’d think they would have busted ass to get it opened a year ago.

Hackensack Discussion / Jack's Cleaners (146-148 State St) ashtray
« Last post by BLeafe on February 02, 2024, 12:00:01 PM »
A thoughtful woman in Calfornia who - like me - used to live in Teaneck and went to Holy Trinity School, sent me this ashtray. Of course, the model on the ashtray had cigarette burns on her from years of use and needed a bath after her long cross-country trip, so I spiffed her up to look like new (click to enlarge):

Hackensack Discussion / Re: My favorite paper is not having a good day

I see The Record is falling back into the habit of dopey captions in the Sports section that tell you that what's being shown is how someone "reacts" to something when they're doing nothing of the sort or just basically doing nothing at all. If there's a true "reaction" shown, then you have to indicate what "action" precipitated it, but that's REALLY asking too much from these poor caption writers.

In today's Sports section - which only has EIGHT pages - there are FOUR idiotic captions, with the first one truly being the dopiest:

1. On Page 1S, the caption says that "Giants quarterback Tyrod Taylor warms his hand...". Yes, his right hand is near his mouth, but he's clearly inserting his protective mouthpiece into it. Don't those caption writers even look at the picture? (click to enlarge pictures)

2. On Page 3S: "Michigan head coach Jim Harbaugh reacts during the second quarter against Minnesota on Oct. 7". If you know the opponent, the date and even that it occurred during the second quarter, shouldn't you also have the photographer's information about why the coach made this very expressive gesture? A touchdown? Frustration over a bad call? "Reacts" tells us nothing.

3. On Page 4S: "Naomi Osaka reacts after winning a point...". She's not shown reacting to anything. She's just caught at the wrong moment by a photographer who should never have submitted this photo (and a photo editor who did no one any favors by OK-ing it for publication)..........so the caption writer isn't the only problem.

4.On Page 6S:  Poor Tyrod Taylor gets the unobservant treatment once again! "...reacts after being sacked...". REACTS? How about he's simply trying to get up? Isn't that obvious?

I guess not.
