City Web Site Poll - hackensack.org

Since the relaunch of the city's official web site, pages continue to be under construction. What benefit is a web site that continues to not serve a purpose.

The city's web site should be primary means of communication to the residents and businesses.

City office hours are week days, usually 8:30am - 4:30am. How many of you are annoyed that to make a physical visit to a city department most working residents have to take a day or leave work early.  To avoid this the city allows you to mail requests (ie: permits) to the city and they mail the permit back - excessive postage and time wasted.

The web site with frequent updates can reach a larger audience faster, reducing postage and newspaper notices, reducing outdated printed material, reducing phone calls.  Downloadable forms, Online payments for permits, fines, taxes would be such a conveinence to residents/businesses.

Other towns such as Fair Lawn and Rutherford web sites are providing a greater service to its own residents than that of a city that is the capital of Bergen County.

Anyone in the city can get a DSL-quality Internet connection, if they have a Wi-Fi enabled laptop. The network works the same on a street corner as it does inside homes. Viewing city Web sites is free; access to the entire Internet costs about $30 a month.

WOW! A city government thinking outside the box. Imagine this in Hackensack. Rising rates from Verizon, Cablevision and all other broadband companies would be a thing of the past.

Looks like the city's official site is about 85% finished.

Recent article in the The Record about Ridgefield Park's new site:

Record Article

An portion of the article reads:

The new Web site is expected to bring residents up-to-date information on municipal meetings, agendas, borough officials, town-sponsored events, schedules, fees, and services.

"I think everyone wanted us to have a Web site," said Mayor Anthony Suarez on Wednesday. "It's our philosophy in government to have an open government. We want to get as much information to the public as possible and this is a great way of doing it."
