Seller's description:

This photo was taken out of a book at some time as there are the black marks from the album paper on the back.

The photo was taken by the KOHLER STUDIOS of HACKENSACK NJ. It measures 5x7" inches.

Seller thinks it's from 1910 - 1920. I think it may be older.

Actually, only the photographic studio is ID'd as being from Hackensack, so it's possible these are not Hackensack students (unless the building can be ID'd as being a Hackensack school).

Hackensack Discussion / Re: The Snowstorm of February 25+26, 2010
« on: February 27, 2010, 02:18:12 PM »
Forgot one.

This is a shot of my storm/screen door to the roof from the inside of one of my bedrooms. There are storm windows on each half in addition to the screen on the top half.

Normally, they're equal-sized squares, but the snowstorm had other ideas.

Pretty talented snowstorm.

Hackensack Discussion / Official Hackensack Snowfall Total?
« on: February 27, 2010, 11:28:05 AM »
Is there an official snowfall total for Hackensack? The paper says 16" in Bergenfield and 20" in Paramus, but it didn't look anywhere near those totals here.

It's got "71" on the foot, so my guess is that that's the year.

If it's the shoe size, Bigfoot ran for HHS.

Seler's description:

2 Issues of Firehouse Magazine on the tragic loss of 5 Hackensack firefighters July 1, 1988 in a truss roof collapse at an auto dealership. The September issue is a 3 page report on the fire by Harvey Eisner.  The November 1989 issue is a follow-up on what was learned in the incident entitled "Everyone is Learning from Hackensack Except Hackensack City Fathers".  This is a 5 page story.  Both issues have an address sticker on the front otherwise are in very good condition from a smoke-free home.

I don't think I need to explain the local importance of these magazines. I hope the city or, at least, someone in town buys them.

I alerted a HFD member I know.

Even looking at the item didn't tell me anything.

But this did:  http://xrl.us/IGEHPS

All I'll tell you right now is that Hackensack was built in 1952. Go read the rest.

What? No operator street address? Most QSL cards provide that info. I found one once from someone whose station was in my building (last picture - NOT part of the auction).

Hackensack Discussion / Re: Johnson Avenue Dilemma

Way ahead of you.

I refer you to the video in reply #88 of the "Road Cave-in on Anderson St" thread, where I ride on the newly-opened road, show you the scene, and mention that it is "courtesy of dash-cam". :P

How does a driver comply with this?

The postcard doesn't say "west" and no one said it did.

Relax - we all agree with you.

Must be the corner of Central and Prospect.  I don't see any slope to the curb, so the curb must be Prospect.

The card says "ON Central Ave", so the curb would have to be Central, but since there's no slope, where does that leave it?

Since the wording is screwy to begin with, it might be an error card.

Where did "ORITANA" originate? I always thought it was just a postcard misprint, but I see it listed as such in legitimate sources, including this site (http://www.hackensacknow.org/index.php?topic=571.0 at the very end of the thread), "The courts and lawyers of New Jersey 1661-1912, Volume 3"
By Edward Quinton Keasbey, and The New York Times.
