I talked to a couple of the workers today and the consensus is that Anderson St could open Thursday, but Friday is more likely. They've got paving and a lot of cleanup to do first.

So, citizens of Hackensack, come out Friday for the big Anderson St re-opening party. There'll be speeches by dignitaries, a ribbon-cutting ceremony, champagne for all, marching bands, dancing girls, and special prizes for the first 100 vehicles to make it all the way from Union St to Main St without breaking any pipes.

(and if you believe any of THAT, I've got a genuine Rolox watch to sell you)

Here are today's images: the Main St repair, still sucking smelly stuff out of the street (shouldn't that be gone if the new pipes are in?), and paving.

That's what the sign says:

Hey - I don't write 'em.........I just shoot 'em.

These are two Main St views that you may have seen before. Since the greedy seller wants way too much money to start the bidding, I've decided not to bother posting the auctions - just the pictures.

Seller's description:

This old metal bell is signed "Lowits Boys' Dept. Everything Boys Wear, 154 Main Street, Hackensack, N.J." and the back is signed "Merry Christmas and Happy New Year".

The back reads Patent Pending, so it is pretty early!

It measures approx. 3 1/4" x 1 1/2" wide. This bells were used at Christmastime and Santa Claus would stand outside Lowits dept. store and wait for donations for the poor.

The other little copper antique bell is a bonus. It has a cloth handle.

There are a couple of familiar names in this, including a tackle named J. DeFalco.

I never held the brick in my HAND.......ewww! I used 2 fingertips for the least amount of time possible.

YELLOW brick road? Considering what type of pipe that broke and your own reference to ancient White Manna sliders, I don't think yellow would my first choice of color description. My number one choice would be number two...........kinda like this:

Since all bricks were WAY underground, I don't think referring to the road as ANY color brick would work, so I must bid this topic adieu:

I'll let one of the road workers add the finishing touch:

Only if a lot of cars fell into the original sinkhole could it be labeled "God of CARnage".

Earlier this week, I showed you traffic lights against the Holman's side wall.

Today, I took a cellphone shot from my living room of some shadows there. An obvious tree is on the right and the other one is from the First Presbyterian Church's steeple on the corner of Passaic and Union streets - a full 2 blocks away diagonally.

Maybe it's gonna oversee the Anderson St repairs.

It was windy and freezing - not a great day for a photo escapade - but I wanted to check the progress on Anderson St and see how close they were to opening Main St.

In the first photo, you can see what Anderson looks like today.

The second image shows you Main St at Anderson, where the traffic lights are back in place. This was taken at about 1:45pm today. A worker says he still thinks Main will open today and that Anderson should be ready next week.

In the third photo, as I was about to take a picture, a really powerful (and prolonged) blast of wind kicked up a ton of stinging dirt and, as you can see, bent every building, traffic light pole, road sign and photographer in sight. It kind of knocked me sideways, so that's why my composition isn't up to its usual stellar quality ::), but it wound up giving me a shot of its effect on the orange netting.

Seller has no date information on this 6" x 8" item. I wonder what the significance of the flowers (?) at her feet is.

The studio's address appears to be 108 Main St.

Hackensack Discussion / Re: Clay Street Fire
« on: December 09, 2009, 07:15:16 PM »
There's no new Clay St fire  - just the one at 134 Clay and it was early this year, not last year. This whole thread is only about that one fire.

The date was given in the first post of this thread and at the top of the video - February 25, 2009. The address was given in the second post.
