I took this shot a week before the accident. It includes the circled guardrail and the car's possible landing area, had there been no guardrail.

Sometime after midnight early last Saturday morning, I heard something that sounded like a crash, but couldn't see anything. A little later, I saw lots of emergency lights reflecting off buildings in the vicinity of Main and Ward, but couldn't see any vehicles because the building on the SW corner of State and Ward blocked the view.

I went out on my roof to the northernmost edge and could see:

1. Two police vehicles, a fire engine, an ambulance and some dark car that was partially-obscured by the ambulance.

2. Once the ambulance left, a police car replaced it, but I could see the damaged front end of the car.

3. As a tow truck pulled the car onto its flatbed, the heavily-indented guardrail came into view.

4. After a quick cleanup, everyone left and I did a long exposure at 2am and made it a black-and-white.

5. Later that morning, I went to the scene for a closeup of the guardrail that saved the 395 Main hole in the ground.

Iím guessing the driver was another resident whoís even more unhappy than me about having his/her cherished view of something taken away soon by this project.

What a protest! Iím glad I didnít think of it.

This was NOT taken in the new Paramus iFlight facility. The story's with the video.

And Teaneck is #61. There are a lot of comments to read on various subjects:

...content was replaced by articles from the Asbury Park Press, USA Today and other non-local sources...

As I mentioned above last month, I'm aware of the non-local nature of our supposedly local paper, but no matter where the contributors are from, grammar, spelling and sentence structure are constants (well, they were until this bunch came along). The READABILITY of the paper is affected every time your eyes hit one of these visual road bumps and the flow is interrupted. It's really annoying.

I don't know how an inanimate object can acquire human qualities, but this paper has managed to appear to be quite amateurly ignorant.

Just today, I plucked these two little gems from the same page in the sports section:

Sad thing is that ďIt ainít gonna get any better.Ē

Amen, brother! Here's more proof ((click to enlarge):

It isn't often that a shot of the moon lighting up the river presents itself (and the stupid 2 year-old lights from the Noches de Colombia rear parking lot really screw things up), so when I saw this, I realized that this just may be the last time I'll ever get this shot once the 395 Main St project rises.

I wasn't successful getting the restaurant to do the right thing and aim their PSE&G-installed lights properly, so I'll gladly pass that battle on to the richer, east-facing new 395 dwellers, who will really hate how obnoxiously close and bright these lights will be in their living rooms.

Maybe if they scream loud enough, this town will wake up and create a light-control ordinance and get PSE&G to stop installing 2nd-floor lighting that illuminates the heavens - something they always claim is "in compliance"! (with what?)

Almost 8 1/2 years later, the mystery may be solved, but the amateur look and lower case still throw me off.

Might this dealership be a predecessor of Hackensack Ford?

But you have the internet and News12 has a site and.........oh, look what I just found there:

Hackensack Discussion / Hackensack projects report on News12 NJ?

Through this morning's fog, I could see someone with a video camera on a tripod on the State St side of the 395 Main project (first pic). He later loaded his equipment into a News12 truck (second pic).

Thinking that maybe someone found the body that was stuffed into the piano, I emailed the man in charge (also in first pic) to ask what was newsworthy enough for News12 to be filming through the fog.

He said that they were doing a story on the redevelopment of Hackensack and were going to film at all projects going on in town.

Look for it.

It really wasn't that much of a big deal and melted away quickly, but it did manage to get both the Yankees' home opener and the Mets game postponed.

As it looks right now, today's Yankees' rescheduled home opener may get washed away by rain.

Aw, what gave it away? That the vertical component of the cross was a smokestack in Bogota or maybe you once bought a car at Feldner Cadillac?

April 1 - It was announced today that the Current on River residential project will now become a church. I saw evidence of that from home in the picture below.

Since it already has a FIVE-story parking garage, the new name will be The Church of the Eternal Optimist.

Archbishop Feldner  - who used to own property across the street - says that the backup plan is to rent 4 floors of parking to nearby used car lots.
