Hackensack Discussion / Re: Buying/Selling/Renting Homes
« on: March 26, 2016, 08:23:03 AM »
All of Bergen County is still insanely and stupidly overpriced for both buying and renting.  Some negative effects:  (1) Companies here want to move to other States where housing is lower, that way they can pay their employees less.  And for the same reason, the high cost of housing deters companies from moving TO New Jersey. You get so little for your money that employees don't want to relocate here (2) Salaries of government employees (State, County, local) are all much higher in States where housing costs are high, and that impacts taxpayers (3) Social service costs are much higher in States where housing costs are high, because most social services are essentially to subsidize a household's rent. Care to guess what the government subsizes for Section 8 rental in Paterson. It's ridiculous, Again this impacts taxpayers. (4) All other sectors of the economy suffer when most of people's income goes to rent or mortgage. There's no disposable income left to power the consumer economy. All of these 4 reasons are exactly why the economy has grown so little during the Obama years.  As much as I'd like to blame Obama, I see the real reason.

No chicken tastes better than Chick fil A.  As a child, my family would go about once a month to Paramus Park, just for Chick fil A, and then maybe do some other shopping.

Congratulations on the birth of two happy healthy babies.

Glad you are ok. Great pics of lightning damage

Hackensack Discussion / Re: North Hackensack Pathmark to close
« on: March 15, 2016, 03:20:12 PM »
I was hoping that shopping center would be rebuilt as combination retail with a few stories of residential on top, since the zoning now allows it.  I thought the former Pathmark could possibly be the first component to be rebuilt in that fashion.  Oh well.  I guess that's not Vornado's business plan

Hackensack Discussion / Re: Teterboro Airport
« on: March 14, 2016, 08:28:28 AM »
this is very good news for the quality of life in Hackensack.

I saw on TV people from Mahwah, 20 miles away, protesting this change because THEY will be under the new flight path. What was missing from that newscast was information on how high the planes are in Mahwah while approaching Teterboro, and how long they are in Hackensack, which is so close to the airport.  Therefore the complaints are not comparable.

please post the commercial reassessments.

Long overdue.  And every single hospital expansion should have put funds into a trust fund for this project.  Should have, but didn't

Lots of information on his website.  And I don't like what is happening in Wallington, tenants effectively evicted with ungodly rent increases.

Hackensack Discussion / merge police and fire ?
« on: December 23, 2015, 07:03:13 PM »
Jersey City, East Orange, and now Newark, have each merged their police and fire departments.  Advocates say it will save a lot of money, and it's a better system.  Is this a good idea, or not.

Thank you, LONG AGO, for your description of early Hackensack open space.  Would love to hear more of your personal recollections.

You would probably love to see the old maps and aerial photos stored here on this website >>>

Hackensack Discussion / Re: Clean Communities Day ?

There was a trash receptacle, and neighbors demanded it be removed.  They thought that people would use it for their household garbage, and otherwise just didn't want to look at it.  I agree there should be one one at Allen Street, and even more important for one at Byrne Street. It seems that lots of pedestrian visitors to Borg's Woods first visit the 7/11 at Passaic Street and The Esplanade. And by the time they reach Borg's Woods via Byrne Street, they are finished with their drink, and they just throw the container or bottle in the woods.  Ignorant.

Thank you for the posting.

As I have said before on this site, it seems that the 1940's through 1960's are a time period in which history was not properly written down.  More is known about earlier decades.
