Such a very sad day to see the announcement about the YMCA building.  I can’t believe the people of Hackensack will let this happen.

Community Soapbox / Where is our Democracy going?

No matter what your political affiliations are, I think the time is long overdue that we need to educate ourselves as to what is happening to our democracy. It is one thing to post the Closed signs on the  State office doors or State of NJ  beach or park signs, but isn't it  another matter to post a Blame picture on the doors and signs of the State Offices/properties? What money paid for the cost of these pictures of Prieto? Have your political differences. Whatever happened to the notion of debating your differing viewpoints on the merits of your viewpoints?

We plan on attending the street fare this Saturday.  I moved away from the area years ago and am looking forward to the day.  Can anyone please suggest a place with good food, reasonably priced, within walking distance of the festivities beteween Atlantic and Passaic  on Main St? Thanks so much.

I'm in South Jersey, just came in from a bike ride along the Delaware Bay....was sitting in my recliner for a few minutes....was watching tv where I had just seen that last night Colorado had the worst quake in 42 years...a 5.3 quake, ... and then the wall unit in the living room started shaking and the wind chimes in the kitchen started ringing, and the chandelier over the table was swinging!!! I realized no open windows or wind was causing the chimes to ring, so I ran out of the house in my bare feet!!!  The reports are we had a 5.9 on the scale in my area.

Thanks so much for replying, Skip. I would love to read about all the high school memories of him. I know he was an Eagle Scout, and involved in the high school wrestling team.  He told me that he did not want to be a doctor.  He was thinking about being a pharmacist or a researcher. He was a free spirit, searching for purpose in life. Vietnam was looming in the background and this was in the back of anyone's mind who was 18, approaching 19, at that time. Back in 1966, my experience was such that it seemed that the accepted thing to do was to not talk about things like this, just "move on."  The idea of "closure" I don't think existed at that time.  I just wanted to say that it was so sad that he never got to live his life. We all were lucky to have had the short time that we did have together.
