Title: At The Car Wash (Middle School version) - The Stills
Post by: BLeafe on June 09, 2018, 05:40:07 PM
So I'm relaxing this morning, reading the paper when I suddenly heard a sound outside my window that I've never heard here before - a trumpet. I've heard bagpipes outside - more than once - but never a trumpet.

So I stuck my head out the window and my eyes followed my ears to a figure standing a block away on the State St traffic island at Passaic St in Hackensack, NJ, and tooting his own horn. WTF? (doesn't "heck" begin with an "F"?)

For a second, I flashed back to the Dancing Man who used to always be gyrating on the SW corner of Anderson and River Streets years ago.

I went out on my roof and noticed a car wash going on at the nearby Middle School. Could these two things be related? No way! Unless the trumpeter is well-versed in Rose Royce tunes for horn, how does a trumpet signal to you that there’s a car wash here that you should patronize?

Of course, curiosity got the better of me and I headed on over.

When I got there, I found that he wasn’t alone. There were young students on all the corners with signs, contributions containers and loud voices trying to convince all the drivers going by to get their cars washed for a good cause, which was………….?

The guy with the trumpet was taking a break, so I went over and spoke with him. His name is Joseph Wolverton, a junior at HHS and a member of the HHS Marching Band.

I told him that I’d be walking around and shooting from different angles and that’s just what I did.

The result is a few stills and an unsophisticated mashup of 10 MOV files that I put on YouTube.

Here are the stills:

1,2,3. These were the initial identifying images that were taken from my apartment, 1-2 blocks away.

4. Taken in case anyone was interested in where everyone was, relative to the World Trade Center.

5. I took this when I got to the scene and found Joe auditioning outside of Hackensack’s hottest club - the Parisian Beauty Academy - which charges $8 per car, according to the sign.

A couple of these can be clicked to enlarge them.

The HHS Marching Band held another car wash on Saturday, but instead of someone playing the trumpet to attract attention at Passaic and State, there were 3 people there: one was yelling into a small bullhorn (would that be a calfhorn?), one held a red flag (STOP at the car wash?), and the third one held a sign asking for band support.
