I used to sometimes 'sneak' in here (in the late 50's) and ride the elevator after school (HTS). Anyone know if the building is still there and what condition it is in? It used to be quite luxurious......

Let it suffice to say that there has been a socio economic shift since you last rode the elevators.

That's unfair. It's still a relatively quiet building. Most of the residents are immigrants, primarily Latino. Same for all the buildings within a block of the Anderson Park.
WarrenG needs to understand that it's not a question of new people coming in, taking over, and older residents feeling forced out. The transition happened very slowly over many decades. The big problem is that the older buildings don't have parking. For the most part, the modern tenant that is economically stable or well-off wants and demands parking. There's plenty of newer luxurious buildings elsewhere in Hackensack and all around Bergen County that have parking. Also, the older buildings typically have fuse boxes and generally substandard electrical wiring, they have old plumbing, and they lack laundry facilities in each unit. No matter how good a landlord might be or how luxurious a building might be, it's impossible to keep such a a building "luxurious" when they are so many much better competing buildngs within a one mile radius.
