For anyone who may be curious, here are some statistics for Hackensack Now:
Traffic is rapidly increasing. In February, more than 2700 unique users visited Hackensack Now. For year 2005, more than 4600 unique visitors came to the site. Considering there are only 42,000 people in Hackensack (about half of that within "computer using age"), I'm encouraged by this number.
The vast majority of users view the message boards. The message boards were viewed more than 10,000 times in the month of February alone. (This means that 2500 unique users are returning each month about 4 times). Only a small percentage of those viewing the boards actually post messages.
Bandwidth for the month of February exceeded 1 gigabyte.
For some reason, Wednesdays generate the most traffic. On average, approximately 250 unique people visit the site on this day.
About 30 other internet sites link to Hackensack Now.
Thanks again for your participation. As always, if you have any suggestions about how I can make this site better serve the community, please let me know.

This site would be an excellent central location for the upcoming BOE agenda and the City Council election.
All announcements, meetings, issues, tasks, could be posted here.
A virtual debate on candidate, issues, budget proposals, Resident questions, concerns asked and answered, etc. if you will.
All groups, running parties should be contacted. Finding out about a debate or BOE budget meeting on the same day of meeting is poor planning and unfair to residents. Proactive support is needed.
With registration on this board now mandatory - email notifications can be sent out as well (I presume).
Guidelines by the editor should be drafted (such as - no personal attacks).

I encourage BOE candidates and City Council slates to post their respective agendum in these forums:
City Council Election (http://www.hackensacknow.com/forums/index.php/topic,376.0.html)
School Board Election (http://www.hackensacknow.com/forums/index.php/topic,437.0.html)
A short list of priorities would be helpful. Better still, candidates might want to post how they propose to handle some of the important issues like education reform, redevelopment, Main Street, etc. I hope that candidates make a genuine effort to engage public participation in the election process.
I agree that these boards provide a convenient forum for discussion by residents and candidates alike. However, there should also be an actual live debate for the benefit of those without internet access. Also, virtual debates have some obvious limitations. Voters need to meet the candidates in person.
I will use my mailing list to announce any debate.

I'm informed that the League of Women Voters (http://www.lwvnj.org/) traditionally moderates debates in local elections.
The League has provided me with a list of several moderators in the area.
If the parties agree to debate, I would be happy to volunteer some time to help coordinate it.
The parties may contact me to discuss this matter further: editor@hackensacknow.com

Somebody recently pointed out to me that many people who moved from Hackensack frequent the site to try to renew old acquaintances and learn about what's happened to old familar places like the Brewster Mansion and Maplecrest Beach.
Welcome Back to Hackensack!

I'm one who's been gone from Hackensack most of my life, yet my heart is still there. Having left Hackensack for good around 1970 after my mom died to return to college (I'm a '67 grad) some memories are starting to fade. I always wonder how some of old friends I haven't spoken to in years are doing. I get to return every now and then as I have one sibling down in West Orange.
