Looks like a couple of trees got blown over on Park St, just south of Anderson St. I was on my way elsewhere, so didn't get any details other than a worker saying that the green house didn't get too badly damaged.

At the height of the storm this morning, I took some cell video from inside my apartment right by a closed storm door. Because it's not airtight, the wind tends to make some scary noises......and this door faces west - NOT the direction the wind was coming from.

I aimed it toward Gentile's to show the wind's effect on their flag.

Wonderful watercolor by the artist Elizabeth Case in 1973, while she was commissioned by the Navy as a Naval Combat artist. She specialized in Submarines and nautical themes. Born in California, Elizabeth Case lived, worked and painted on both east and west coasts. She first studied at the French Institute, then at the Art Students League in NYC with: Zorach (sculpture), Reginald Marsh (drawing), Vlacov Vytlacil & Harry Sternberg (painting) Robert Hale (anatomy). She attended Elmira college, in 76 receiving the school’s award for Outstanding Professional Achievement. Ms.Case began her career in animation at Walt Disney Studios working on the film “Sleeping Beauty”. While there, she painted as part of a team doing murals for the L.A. County Hospital. She was known for her lively Old Bridge Library mural “The Wrong Elf – A History of Children’s Literature”. Ms. Case’s muralstory of Typography from Cave to Computer” is on view at the Academy wing of the Bergen County Technical Schools in Hackensack, and her mural of the Good Shepherd is in the Church of the Good Shepherd in Fort Lee. Ms. Case painted in the American genre: local scenes and favorite themes in many media. As comfortable with toys and hats as boats, her work is in public as well as private collections. As a Navy Combat Artist, her submarine operations paintings are in the National Archives. She has had solo shows at the Walt Disney Research Library; Swain’s (New Hope); D’Alessio Gallery & Gallery 8 (NYC); Inaugural exhibition, Fort Lee Library, libraries in Edgewater, Old Bridge, and Ridgefield; Eastern Virginia Medical Center Exhibition Facility. Norfolk Va.; Ocean County Artists Guild; and more recently the Manchester Library. Group shows included the National Society of Mural Painters Bicentennial American Freedoms exhibition, a tour of 40 cities – and the 1995 mural society 100th Anniversary Show “The Process of Mural Painting” at the Art Students League. The artist participated in many shows including Jane Law’s Annual miniature Exhibition in Surf City and the Artists Loft at the LBI Foundation for Art and Sciences. In addition to the National Society of Mural Painters, she belonged to the Crestwood Artists Guild and the Ocean County Artists Guild. She taught painting at Leisure Village West and Keswick Pines in Whiting NJ where she lived. In addition to scholarly research, she worked at Grumbacher Art Materials Co., understanding many technical aspects of painting and materials. She gave demonstrations on various techniques and painting methods. In addition, Ms. Case was a writer. Although better known for her poetry on the West Coast, she did readings at the OCAG Island Heights “Coffee Shop” nights and at Barnes and Noble in Brick. For a number of years she was correspondent for the Times-Beacon Islander Newspaper. Past secretary for the National Society of Mural Painters and the author of the organization’s handbook, she edited the NSMP Newsletter for a number of years. Her last position was editor of the Leisure Village West newspaper. Ms. Case is listed in Who’s Who in American Art, Who’s Who in American Women, and other biographies.
