"Schools Superintendent Joseph Montesano called Capone "a great member of our staff" who left the district in 2002 after 35 years. He served as business administrator before his nine-year tenure as assistant superintendent."

Why does my wallet seem lighter as I read this?  I guess we should get used to having our taxes raised every year.

I know its too early to tell, but does anyone recall how this guy operates? Is he a "YES Man"? Will he help move the city into the 21st Century? The coziness with the BOE scares me.  ???

Hackensack Discussion / Re:Suggest Clubs or Groups for these boards
« on: March 25, 2004, 11:14:48 AM »
You may want to contact  Lt. Patrick Fay, Tel: 201 646-7592, pfay@hackensackpd.org at HPD. He oversees a couple of neighborhood blockwatch groups in the city.

Your idea is great, but can easily be molded into something that already exists.  Why re-invent the wheel?

The Hillers Neighborhood Blockwatch group meets monthly (except during the winter and usually the third Tuesday) at the Firehouse on the corner of Marvin and So. Summitt Ave.  As much as I want to attend these meetings, I simple can't due date conflicts.  Our neighborhood watch group has seen results too.

Having a discussion category for such groups would be a great idea.  I had tried to get the city to embrace this idea a year or two ago (you can probably guess the answer (or lack of one) that I got). Much like city meetings where residents are encourage to attend - some simply can't or cannot be bothered. However having the conveinence of a web site, posting board, discussion threads make it easier for everyone ( actually, anyone that has web access).

There also has to be a way to keep those who are not online in the loop of what transpires online.

Hackensack Discussion / City Web Site Poll - hackensack.org
« on: March 23, 2004, 01:38:50 PM »
Since the relaunch of the city's official web site, pages continue to be under construction. What benefit is a web site that continues to not serve a purpose.

The city's web site should be primary means of communication to the residents and businesses.

City office hours are week days, usually 8:30am - 4:30am. How many of you are annoyed that to make a physical visit to a city department most working residents have to take a day or leave work early.  To avoid this the city allows you to mail requests (ie: permits) to the city and they mail the permit back - excessive postage and time wasted.

The web site with frequent updates can reach a larger audience faster, reducing postage and newspaper notices, reducing outdated printed material, reducing phone calls.  Downloadable forms, Online payments for permits, fines, taxes would be such a conveinence to residents/businesses.

Other towns such as Fair Lawn and Rutherford web sites are providing a greater service to its own residents than that of a city that is the capital of Bergen County.

Events & Calendar / Re:Hackensack Parks Clean-up Day
« on: March 18, 2004, 12:12:53 PM »
You know - if you hadn't posted this, how many residents would even know about this? Good work.

The city website has nothing about this. The Public Works news page is under construction.

Oh I know - the city will announce it in the quarterly newsletter mailed to residents after the event takes place.  Or has "The County Seat" become the official publication of the city?

Hackensack Discussion / Questionable Properties
« on: March 15, 2004, 11:10:14 AM »
Thought a listing of questionable properties around town might stir up interest by residents and city officials to provide a status of abandoned or neglected or vacant properties around town.

Here's one to start:

363 Essex St.  ( abandoned house next to Hackensack Florist, across the street from the new Sanzari building)

Publically Listed Owner of Property:
TROVM, LLC C/O VINCENT P. TROVINI
W 115 CENTURY RD
PARAMUS NJ 07652

Does anyone know the status of this abandoned property? Can the city force it to be torn down?  Is the city collecting tax payments on the property?
