Information Resources / Bergen County Community Support Groups
« on: July 24, 2013, 08:58:18 PM »
To see the wide variety of no-fee (minimal dues, if any; most are free) community mutual support groups available in Bergen County (with many in Hackensack):
http://www.mededfund.org/njgroups/Bergen_County_Groups.pdf

For full details on group meeting locations, times, activities and contacts any time, on ALL the specific MENTAL HEALTH, ADDICTION, ABUSE VICTIM &  HURRICANE SANDY support group meetings here in NJ, as well as for helpful resource handouts, go to: http://www.mededfund.org/NJgroups/QuickLinks_NJgroups.pdf

To get details on any of the thousands of other New Jersey and online support groups for most any PHYSICAL ILLNESS, CAREGIVER burden, DISABILITY,  PARENTING challenge, BEREAVEMENT situation, TRAUMA experience, or any one of hundreds of other stressful life situations & transitions, anyone can still obtain the most up-to-date info by simply phoning our non-profit NJ Self-Help Group Clearinghouse toll-free helpline 1-800-367-6274, more easily remembered as 1-800-FOR-M.A.S.H. (Mutual Aid Self-Help).  We hope to add these thousands of other New Jersey groups, to our online database next year, after we rewrite our database software to handle online inquiries for so many groups.

If you know of anyone interested in learning how to join with others to START any needed any new self-help (i.e., member-run) support group in NJ, here's how we help (which includes our listing their name alongside the existing groups, but only giving out their first name if subsequent callers willing to help them in getting that needed new group off the ground) : http://www.mededfund.org/NJgroups/How_we_help_people_start_gps.pdf  We encourage lay people starting self-help groups to use a "shared leadership" approach, so that the responsibility of getting the group up and running isn't all on one person's shoulders: http://www.mededfund.org/NJgroups/ShareLed.pdf
