I'm not too familiar with this company, so I did some research and found out that the tracks never made it to Hackensack from Newark. In the second image - a New York Times article from 1900 - you can read about one of the impediments.

Let's see how long it takes them to fix it.

12 days.

The mourning period is over at Sears as of sometime yesterday.

I was a pack-and-a-half a day Marlboro Man, but gave them up in 1971. I got in a bit of trouble and swore to God I'd give them up if I got out of it.

The rabbit didn't die, so I smoked the last one in the pack, went to bed, got up the next morning and haven't had one since. I felt the urge about 6 months later, but resisted it and it's been smooth sailing ever since.

Long before I lived here, there was a rooftop garden in the penthouse section of the roof. There's still a water spigot for a hose, but nothing to water but tar.

I took a stroll over to the Hackensack River Walkway in Johnson Park on Thursday and walked north to the footbridge over the river at FDU and back.

The Walkway and area was very nice-looking, but I couldn't see much of the river because of all the foliage, so maybe I'll go back next winter. Here are some of the things I did see:

1. A naked tree (Anderson St Bridge in the lower right)

2. A robin in the naked tree

3. Three birdhouses (this is three photos in one)

4. Soccer field lights

5,6. Something emptying into the river by FDU (what is it?)

7,8. More birds

9. The Anderson St Bridge from a bit upriver

They continue to be sad over at Sears - the flag STILL has not changed position!

My only guess is that 50% of the employees were fired last week, so the company is at half-staff.

...fly Old Glory at 1/2 staff until noon on 5-30 Memorial Day , then raised to the Top of the staff...
...will they return to raise to the top of the staff at noon...?

Well, as of 11:30am on 5/31 (the next day), they've STILL got it at half-staff.

I guess Sears didn't read that flag etiquette book. Let's see how long it takes them to fix it.

A STROLL ACROSS THE GEORGE WASHINGTON BRIDGE

These are some of the fun shots I took on 5/25 when I went to the George Washington Bridge to photograph the USS New York coming up the Hudson River as part of Fleet Week (see http://www.hackensacknow.org/index.php/topic,1978.0.html for that shoot).

Basically, I got there too early, walked across the bridge to the 178th St bus terminal and back to Fort Lee on a gorgeous day.

Besides the main event warship pictures, I shot:

1. the Little Red Lighthouse from the Jersey tower

2. the jammed Henry Hudson Parkway feeder ramp

3. the bridge from the upper level of the bus terminal where the buses enter and exit

4. the Jersey coastline south of the bridge

5. the FDNY fireboat "Three Forty Three"

6. the bridge's south walkway

7. under the bridge approach on Hudson Terrace in Fort Lee

Looks like the same type of car.  I wonder if they belong to a local car dealer who needed temporary space to keep some new vehicles.  Nissan ?

Not likely. One is a Hyundai with New York plates and the other is a Honda with Jersey plates.

I don't think they were there for more than an hour or two, but the point is that they shouldn't have been there at all.

Remember where the army recruitment place was - that one-block street that ran from State St to Main St right into the big Peoples Trust bank building?

That's Banta Place.

Holy Trinity School sits at the intersection of Maple Ave and Pangborn Place (5 Pangborn is where you used to ride the elevator after school at HTS).

I wouldn't think that streets would be named after grocers and there are a number of prominent Bantas in Hackensack's history, so let's ask someone who may know where Banta Place got its name from.

Mr. Editor?

I looked out the window yesterday and couldn't believe my eyes.

1. It's bad enough parking in that space when you shouldn't, but I've NEVER seen this before!

2. Monkey see, monkey do?

3. Perhaps there were no other available spaces?

Uh............never mind.
