It's back and it's next week from Wednesday through Sunday, May 24-28.

I saw the poster in the window at Fratelli's Pizza on Anderson St (immediately east of the tracks), the banner was in its usual location on the Anderson St side of the former Holy Trinity Convent on Pangborn Pl and the other stuff was online.

Who knew that Holy Trinity Church uses QR codes? WAY too hip!

And be sure to NOT wear open-toed footwear at the carnival, lest you be banned from certain rides (as per the 4th image).

Been detoured around these streets recently? I took a walk around the area a week ago when they started.

Passaic St was being all dug up where it crossed the tracks (and where it’s been extremely unsmooth just driving over the track area). I don’t know if there’s more to what they’re doing than that, but the fact that Passaic St is still partially closed might lead you to believe that something else is going on.

Railroad Ave had a bunch of large sewer pipes lining the east side of the street and I’m told that when they’re installed, they’ll be doing the same thing on the west side of the street.

I’m sure there are more knowledgeable people in town who are reading this that might care to post better, more up-to-date information.

Meanwhile, enjoy the pix and click them - especially the PANOs - to fully-enlarge.

UPDATE: The detour sign that’s been on Passaic St by Union St is gone as of today, May 10, so I’m guessing that they’ve finished the work by the tracks.

I was heading south on Main St Friday morning and had just passed B&W when I saw smoke up ahead. As I got closer, I saw that it was coming from a car or truck. Flames were coming from the engine and below it.

No one was behind me, so I stopped the car, took a quick shot out the window and drove on.

Dunno what happened after that.

This happened a week ago (I'm running a bit behind lately).

1. Saw this.

2. Got this PANO shot of the scene by the former-Rudy's construction site. The first thing I flashed on was another Anderson St hole about 3 blocks east in 2009 when an ancient water main made of brick collapsed, as did the road. Could this (literally) be connected to that event?

I asked Mr Editor if he knew what this was about. He suggested that it may be utility service for the new project.

He was right. I was later told it was a sewer connection for the new building.

3. The hole was covered up the next day, so I figured it couldn't be a collapsed brick water main (that one took a couple of weeks to get fixed in 2009). However, the hole was reopened the day after that. NOW what?

4. I was told that a non-specific error had been made and was being corrected. I asked if I could take a quick closeup of the new hole. I got the OK and took this very-rushed PANO.

No more hole.............the street is whole.

Hackensack Discussion / The Teaneck Wildfire

The Daily Voice article:

How it looked from my living room (the towers are in Fort Lee, the high-rises are in Cliffside Park and the bottom structure is the roof of 389 Main St - click to enlarge):

It's usually pretty quiet around here on Sunday mornings, but not yesterday. I heard men yelling and my ears pointed my eyes south toward the Middle School where I saw activity on the soccer pitch: kids running around and men throwing footballs.

Shoot first and ask questions later. The first 8 pictures are what I saw in the order I saw them. Then I asked Google the questions and the answers included something about the Bergen County Girls Flag Football League, its logo and the fact that games will be starting on Sunday, April 2.

1. Anybody remember this shot from 11 years ago? It appeared here (second shot): http://www.hackensacknow.org/index.php/topic,2352

2. It's now the front cover of a book of poetry. Whodathunkit?

Unfortunately, the cover is WAY too dark (I brightened it up a bit here) and the bird must have eaten my photo credit. The author assures me that both problems will be corrected.

Hackensack Discussion / Very Tall New Electrical Poles on River St
« on: March 13, 2023, 03:45:01 PM »
1. On February 7, I happened to notice from my living room that some colorful orange work was being done on an electrical pole on River St.

2. Soon after, I saw a much taller pole that was at about a 45º angle being raised.

3. That was a pretty easy sequence to shoot.

4. Four days later, I'm on the Teaneck Greenway and notice the same pole, the picture window I shot it from and how really tall it is.

5. Exactly a month after that, the sun is shining on a bunch of new River St poles and their really-up-there wires.

Is this going to happen all over town? What's the main reason for such an increase in height?

This is the story that's in the video's writeup.............and be sure to crank up the sound for full effect (and please hit the "Watch on YouTube" link so the view counts):

It was busy at the hospital, so I had to park on the roof of the parking garage.

There's a nice view up there, so after my appointment, I took a few photos..............and then I heard a plane. It was a private jet heading for Teterboro Airport, which is about 3 miles south of where I was standing.

Time for a quick switch to video.

There's been a big stink for years about the noise and pollution of many aircraft flying low - directly over the hospital (and many high-rise apartment buildings on the same street) - and new routes were proposed that were to take the planes over a nearby highway instead.

They might need to work on that a little harder. Here are 4 planes that flew directly overhead in a period of...............EIGHT MINUTES!

And be sure to follow the bouncing sun reflection ball.
