Title: School Board Election (April 19, 2005)

This year, the following incumbents are up for reelection:

Daniel E. Kirsch
Francisco J. Rodriguez
Carolyn Hayer

Post by: Hackensack Jazz on March 30, 2005, 12:36:36 PM: I would like to know where these candidates post their qualifications and resume in a public access data file, and how such info can be certified? Why even bother to vote when it is not so clear or acessible, the various things besides the common attributes people would vote on. Where do we find info besides the schmear claptrap so often added as an occasional fishbone hidden in a slice of pork pie?

Post by: wetochwink on April 20, 2005, 11:55:03 AM: If the state mandates that a school budget can only grow 3% annual now - expect this additional tax increase request to continue and climb.

There has got to be another way of getting schools more operating money than having to annually increase our property taxes.

All this and we have two schools failing state tests - a test that fails to accurately report what the problems are. But that would actually mean that President Bush would have to financially support his doomed "No Child Left Behind Act".

How much more is everyone willing to shell out? Don't forget the tax increase by the city and the "yet to hear from increase" from the County. And oh yeah - kiss your property tax rebate from the state good-bye too.

Post by: lab94 on April 21, 2005, 01:52:08 PM: Hey, wetochwink Save some of your anger for next year. If I understand how this worked out it is $63.00. per household. Thats because the law s-1701 made the school eliminate all but $100,00 in extra cash ( emergency money fund ) It had around 3 million in it. So that extra cash was put into the budget this year. That would mean next year there would be an extra 3 million to raise to balance the budget! I'm not 100% on this but this is how it was explained to me.

By the way, the "establishment" candidates won, and that is a good sign as to how the city election will go on May 10th. For better or for worse.

The tax increases are simply keeping exisiting projects and programs in place. Where is the investment return to improve our schools (Middle School and Hillers)? Why do they continue to fail?

I'm getting ready to enroll my child into the school system. I have teachers telling me what grade schools to avoid and that its ill-advised to send my child to the Middle School - as if I had a choice. Its pretty bad when teachers are not supporting their own school system.
