Hackensack Discussion / Re: The Ling is listing...
« on: August 17, 2018, 03:25:35 PM »
The Ling has been stuck in the mud since at least 2016, so I'm wondering how flooding it made it list.

This Eye on The Record post from the end of 2016 discusses the Borgs and the Ling:

USE SOME OF HOSPITAL'S MILLIONS TO PAVE OUR BROKEN STREETS:

Also, when I open this topic, why do I see your first post from 2017, I think, instead of your last?

Sports is probably the least important stuff in The Record. I agree there is no excuse for the sloppiness there, but don't you miss coverage of Hackensack news, and the lack of local news in general?

DUCK TONGUE, PIG SNOUT, LIVE CRAWFISH AND OTHER EXOTICA

Here's my full report on shopping at the new 99 Ranch Market, the big Chinese supermarket that opened on Wednesday in the space once occupied by Pathmark:

99 Ranch Market, a big California-based Chinese supermarket, opened on Wednesday in the Home Depot Shopping Center on Hackensack Avenue (in what was once a Pathmark). The dim sum, roasted ducks and other prepared food make the store the closest you can get to Chinatown without leaving New Jersey. There were free samples, but they were nothing special compared to what is available at any Korean supermarket on the weekends. There is a fresh fish department, and live crawfish were $4.99 a pound. Anyone see or read anything about this crime scene on the Anderson Street Bridge on Thursday? Asked if there was a body, one officer said it's something else. An older Toyota Prius in the car wash lot was being guarded by cops. See photos on my Instagram post:

Hackensack Discussion / Re: Quickchek
« on: June 29, 2018, 11:09:48 AM »
I went in there on June 26, and got a large hazelnut coffee and a 20-ounce bottle of water free with coupons that came in the mail. Lactose-free milk was available for the coffee, unlike  Starbucks or other premium coffee places. The staff announced that coffee is free for two weeks, and I have other coupons for discounts on lattes, sandwiches and other food. This QuickChek is across the street from Brooklyn's Pizza. It also has a gas station attached selling QuickChek gas.

A bill in the New Jersey Legislature would set up a consortium that would use donations to improve local news coverage:

So I guess every reader has to be a Sherlock Holmes. "Look, Mary, that steeple looks like the Presbyterian or is it the Catholic church ......"

Meanwhile, circulation of The Record has plummeted, thanks to your critique of the Sports section:

The Record's style has always been to use the day of the week, not "tomorrow" and "yesterday." So, you can say something will take place "today," but otherwise, you say "Sunday" or "Tuesday" and so forth. Still, under Gannett, numerous stories have been published with the wrong time element. Stories seem to be taken from the website and put in the print edition without changes, including any copy editing to fix the time element. A real shit show.

Jeez, how about a cross street or some other info to locate this project for those who don't know every inch of Hackensack.....

Amen.
