Free Classifieds and Announcements / Re: Free parking on Main St Dec. 10-25, 2018
« Last post by BLeafe on December 12, 2018, 06:06:55 PM »
I was wondering how drivers on Main St would become aware of the free parking. The answer is pink plastic bags. If I was parking and saw a meter covered by a plastic bag, I'd probably think the meter was out of service and park elsewhere until..............."OMG! They're ALL out of service! Wait - it says something on the bag.............................nevermind".

I hope the city is environmentally-conscious enough to save the bags for future re-use.

I drove by there on sunday and saw a 150 sign still up too. I hope someone saves that little booth there somehow. Just seeing that logo reminds me of delivering the paper in 1978-79

Hackensack History / The Record building demolition is complete
« Last post by BLeafe on December 10, 2018, 08:51:01 PM »
The front part of The Record building finally came down today. I wasn't there, so if somebody else was, please post the pix. I found out when I drove by this afternoon, got out and took a few shots, but it's kind of empty and certainly anti-climactic to be shooting nothing, so here's a pair of before and after images.

Two trees appear to define the space where the front was and the heavy machinery seemed to enjoy playing with the remains. The stitch is head-on to where the front was. I think the best shot is the one from the side with the sun reflecting because the other local buildings are now unblocked.

Actually, EVERYTHING with The Record name on it isn't down yet as you can see in the last picture.

It used to take a couple of weeks to fill up a post of Record errors, but not lately. They're really screwing up and getting worse.

That said, the Fives & Flubs sad deluge continues:

Might be a nice shot when the project's finished.

Sorry - that's my mistake.

All fixed.

Quick question/ observation: If Sears is on the east side of Main Street and has an even address (436 Main Street) and the former Holman Moving and Storage building is on the west side of Main Street and has an odd address (435 Main Street) how come the Waypoint project is called Holman/ Waypoint 436?

Their high-end tenants will need SOMEWHERE classy to shop when Sears folds.

This is  a goldmine for Family Dollar.
