Hackensack Discussion / Re: Ode to Hackensack (Seriously)
« on: April 20, 2010, 12:36:41 PM »
I lived in Hackensack (before that So Hackensack) on Hudson St from 1978-86..then on New St from 1986-95, when I moved to NYC. I have many great memories of our city, including being ON Lodi St during the filming of Jersey Girl.
I went to Immaculate Conception school on Hudson St by Rt.80, and Bergen Tech high school (class of 85) had a few paper routes as a kid, and sampled some of the best Italian food from various deli's I ever had in my life. My neighborhood was very diverse, and I had a mixed bag of friends growing up, from all backgrounds. It was a simple time, and it was great.

On the Sopranos ( i believe it was season 2) Burt Young plays Bobby Baccala's dad and crashes his car into a sign at the site of a former gas station on River St just south of the Rt 80 overpass after murdering someone in a house (scene shot in Garfield).

Hello again, does anyone remember the little market on Jackson Ave. right off of Hudson Street by Costa Bros? Or the candy store on Hudson by the corner of Kennedy, at one time it was called "Tessie's"

thanks, yes Bank St. i thought it was earlier than 1985, but i did remember it was when i was still in high school so i guess that does seem right. i used to wait for the 165 on that corner to go to school everyday.

The street now named Wysocki Place used to be called something else, and there was a bar and a used car lot right on the corner. Anyone remember the old name of the street?

Good question...I'm not sure about the one on Hack Ave. When I started high school at Bergen Tech in 1981 it was already a Roy Rogers.

Does anyone remember the used car lot next to the bar on the corner of Hudson and Wesley streets...and if I'm not mistaken, the next side street (now called Wysocki place I think) was also named something else...can anyone help?
