What's with the party affiliation?  Isn't the election nonpartisan?

If you're going to run as an independant (not on a "slate"), you better think of a smart way to try and get people to vote for you. Independants always get clobbered in Hackensack elections, none has ever come remotely close to winning. People in this city vote for slates. Now, Freddie has a new tactic, to label himself with the Democrat party affiliation. I don't think any non-slate candidate has ever tried this. It's a pretty shrewd tactic. In fact, this might actually give him a shot in this election. I know Freddie Jones, and he occasionally comes to city council meeting to watch and not speak about anything. But I want to hear what he stands for on the issues before I even consider voting for him. Who knows, I might not know him as well as I think I do. If his entire platform is to simply state that he is a Democrat, he's going to lose a lot of potential votes.
