As soon as I got on the walkway, I noticed almost 100 geese emerging from the river, crossing (and leaving a deposit on) the boardwalk, strolling out onto the field and heading back to the river after going around a bench. They must have freaked out after hearing someone's footsteps and they all took off, settling into the river and its views of the Anderson St Bridge and the city's rehab projects.
Where the mallard (and the slight shake) came from, I have no idea.
