Last Tuesday, March 19, 2019, they poured the concrete to create the first floor floor. I got a good tip to be there early AM.

The pictures are pretty much self-explanatory, except for the first 4 images.

The first one is a photo stitch taken from the roof behind the State Farm office, showing everything that was going on, including one of the many cement trucks needed for the entire floor, the big cement-pumper crane (center) and its hanging tube on the right over the newly-poured floor.

It turns out that this will probably be the last time for me on that roof because - as of today - they've already got the southern cement block wall up to the third floor, which also means no more shooting from the State Farm bathroom (thank you, Bob Testa - it was a big help).

I wasn't sure what was being made in the second and third shots, so I checked in with the site superintendent. His reply:

"Itís a footing for the extension of the existing wall inside basement area. A steel tube column will sit on top of that footing & be bolted down to carry a steel beam overhead. The beam overhead will connect to the piece of existing steel thatís there and the other end will be connected to the new steel tube column that will get installed."


Got that?

The fourth photo represents good photographic timing for me, but not for the poor guy who got pulled into the cement truck. I hope they put a plaque somewhere on the first floor to let people know who they're walking on and to do so respectfully.

I noticed last summer from my apartment that the north side of Current on River was unusually bright at night (Pic 1). I figured it was some sort of construction security lighting, but I didn't find any during the daytime when I visited the site.

More towards the end of the year, the nearby McDonald's put up 3 blazing lights facing north that cast shadows on my living room wall - 7 stories up and 4-5 blocks away (McD's was built on lower ground than my building was, so it's probably closer to 8 stories up). (Pix 1 and 2)

Perhaps McD's also had a similar bank of lights that I could not see on the other side of their building facing south toward C on R and lighting it up, so I decided to visit the scene at night and take pictures. (Pic 3)

But when I got there McD's DID have an involvement, but the biggest culprits were the Toyota dealership (by far) and - to a lesser degree - the Giant Farmers Market. (Pic 4 photo stitch - NOTE: after clicking to enlarge the stitch, you'll have to scroll from left to right to see the whole thing)

Just imagine spending a LOT of money to live in C on R and seeing this on your first (and every) night.

389 Main will also have the same problem (on the plus side, that building will block a couple of lights that shine brightly in my apartment). But this is just one observation from my one angle.  I imagine that all new buildings will have the same problem unless Hackensack pre-emptively enacts a city-wide retroactive light control ordinance with no one grandfathered in.

PSE&G is responsible for most of the problem installations, but only the property owners can get them to fix things - they will NOT listen to me. Any non-PSE&G installations may only require tilting the light or adding a shade, so it shouldn't be a major expense for those people or the city, which also violates light pollution sensibilities regularly. Wait'll the people on the east-facing upper floors of both buildings get a load of the Foschini Park field lights! (Pix 5&6 - taken from my apartment, which is not as close to those lights as 389 Main and ESPECIALLY Current on River).

The council has got to act before all these people move in and start complaining. Let's start them off with the great experience you've been touting all along.

I continue to offer a standing invitation to any council member who would like to see everything I'm talking about (and a lot more) from my location.

Any of you up for doing the right thing for all your new residents (and some of us long-time ones)?

Somebody I know was concerned about front preservation of this building, so this is for you, E.

1-3. Entrance and light fixture intact

4,5. This is the view looking in through the front door all the way back to the Moore St entrance. I just noticed I'm partially in the mirror's reflection. The second image is a zoomed-in version of the first showing workers at the back entrance.

6. The next image was taken through the window that's just south of the main entrance.

7. The first picture the new tenants will take (well, maybe the second)

Hey - they got the name on it: "Meridia".

They'd better change it fast:

3-11+13-19

1. The yellow thing starts to come off.

2. It's gone and what looks like fourteen horizontal bars remain (currently: eight)

3. More luxury for the future 210 Main tenants! A giant over-the-air TV antenna has been added!

4. The antenna was removed because it didn't have enough rust to match the sculpture. Meanwhile, this huge man shores up the sculpture...............or it could be someone working down the street at The Hole who photobombed my shot.

If you're going to the medical office building (20 Prospect), there's only one elevator bank on the roof - same with every other floor. Then it's a simple stroll around the corner on the ground floor to the elevators that take you to your destination. If you're going to the hospital (30 Prospect), that's a different building and a different elevator bank. One's on one side of the parking garage and the other one's on the other.............it's not too complicated.

What incentive does a hospital have for encouraging people to buy electric cars? It's not really their job. I'm sure you and others do much better jobs at that with your blogs.

Wow! Huge type AND boldface? You're thisclose to internet shouting. Perhaps instead of a one-mile top-off car charge, someone at the hospital can offer you a chill pill prescription.

The main parking garage is always packed, and some areas were closed for renovation when I was there in January and February to go to a dermatologist. I had to go to the top deck to find a space. The hospital has four electric chargers for visitors in one garage, but when I tried to use one all were taken.


Top deck? So what? You still take the elevator and walk the same amount. And you're also complaining that the hospital doesn't automatically provide a free charger for your car along with the free parking? After charging your car at home in HACKENSACK, you need a charger after driving ALL THE WAY to Hackensack Hospital? What's that, a mile?

3-13-19 (3) - Ward St side, first floor corrugated metal flooring in place, recently-installed sidewalk covering on Main St

3-15-19 (2) - New load of corrugated metal flooring for the third floor, putting that metal decking in place (Chicken Collision store in the background)

3-16-19 (2) - Sparkly river at low tide, the black market pastel snow shovel exchange

3-17-19 (5) - Third floor metal flooring almost done (second floor concrete soon), garage solitary confinement room (don't tell anyone), underside of third floor metal flooring, the metal corner of Main & Ward, yarn from after-work knitting class (REALLY don't tell anyone - the guys'll kill me!)

FYI  - you CAN park for free at HUMC whether you're having a test done, a doctor's appointment or a procedure. If you park in their parking structure, you will always be given a pass in whatever office you're visiting. If they forget to give you one, ask. You may have to exchange the pass first at the front desk for something you can hand to the exit cashier. The handicap spaces on each floor are always nearest the elevators.

It's a different story if you're just visiting or addicted to valet parking, but if not, it's an easy walk. I've never paid to park there.

Had to shoot this stitch before they put something in it. By the way - all the piledriving you may have heard coming from this project was only on the Maple Ave side. I don't know why and I don't know if there is any more to be done. I'll post those images the next time I update the Projects thread.
