Hackensack Discussion / Re: Go Hackensack Troasts!
« on: August 28, 2007, 09:40:40 PM »
Does anyone know the answer to my question regarding the makeup of the team?  I am confused as to why Hackensack recreation teams are scheduled around the Troast rather than the other way.

I agree with the Editor.  Maybe the problem in Hackensack is that some in the Fairmount section believe that they are not a part of Hackensack as a whole.  Hackensack is a city and although we are not New York City, we will suffer some urban problems.  Dividing us further will not help to correct those problems.

It is good to know that citizens can voice opposition to liquor applications.  I am not sure how far they will get us but if you don't voice them, your chance for change is 0%.  If you do voice them, your chance for change is at least 50/50.

I am not a supporter of the minute mayor situation.  However, I am sure some things have come out of it.  However, I believe the "eminent domain" situation unfair.  Interestingly enough, it appears that the properties marked for takeover skip over the property owned by our County Chairman.  Please correct me if I am wrong.

How many Hackensack residents are on the Hackensack Troast?

Unfortunately I was out of the State for the fireworks but I recall last year that they were approximately 15 minutes long.  In fact, they were 13 minutes long.

I received my new assessment.  My property value went up 3 times as much.  I called the assessor's office and was told that we would not know the new rate until the school board budget was decided.  I was also told that the new tax bill would come out in May.  However, if anyone wants to appeal the assessment, the appeal must be filed prior to April 1.

Hackensack Discussion / Voting Districts
« on: June 27, 2006, 06:53:30 AM »
In the last 2-3 years, Hackensack's voting districts have changed.  Who makes those districts and wards and why the recent change?  It appears that some wards are bigger than others.

Also, what are your thoughts on a city government in which each ward has a council member and at least one councilperson at large?

Further proof that something needs to be done about lower Main Street is the recent closing of The Stealth.

Today's Chronicle list an article where the City will host a street festival in the Upper Main Street area hosted by the Upper Main Street Alliance.  This is what we have been suggesting for the lower end of Main Street which has been neglected.  It can be done.

Why can't the City apply the same security and safety measures used in the past for parades.  I know we have not had parades recently but if cost is the problem, maybe the local Chamber of Commerce can kick in on the security.  It would be beneficial to both the City and the merchants.  The street could be closed on Saturday between 12 and 5 pm and all of the restaurants and merchants on Main Street could participate.  It would be similar to the Harlem Festival held in the City in August.  125th Street is closed down and the merchants and restaurants sell their products.  If cost is still a problem, charge outside vendors as we do on the 4th of July.

Despite what I was told my some neighbors, I did let the individual in.  I was surprised to find that my house was listed incorrectly as a cape cod with a finished attic and basement.  I own a ranch which has neither.  Hopefully, this will be beneficial to me after the results come in.

I think I will be attending that next hearing at the high school!  I need to get it from the horses mouth.

P.S.  To the Editor, I would prefer if you refer to us as Ladies & Gentlemen : :D :D :D

Thank you.

I say let us merge since we have to jump backwards and forwards to "quote" what we were talking about in the first place.  I know Eric's concerns are genuine.  I may not agree with all of them but the two sites are ridiculous.

I am writing my response to Anthony's comments on this thread because comments were not to be made on the original real estate post.  [Editor's Note: Anthony's post is now above this one. It was split from "Hackensack Real Estate Threads"].

I tend to agree with Anthony.  It appears that your desire is to bring up tests scores by bringing in higher socioeconomic families.  How about bringing up tests scores by actually bringing up tests scores?  This could result in, and not be the result of bringing in higher socioeconomic families.

The scores are moving in the right direction.  Let's keep pushing those buttons.

I think that is a fair suggestion.  However, what would you recommend for girls?  I know that they can wear pants but what if they chose to wear a dress or skirt?  What skirt length? Where should the shirt cut off?  Should it be below the waist or above  the waist, etc?
