Just looked at the video. One of the most superficial I've ever seen. Hackensack River pollution is a local issue? The Ling stuck in the mud? We can thank the greedy Borgs for that. I couldn't see all the type displayed in the video. How is downtown redevelopment "irresponsible" ? Just quoting one side bashing the other doesn't illuminate anything.

Issues are downtown redevelopment, including returning Main Street to two-way traffic, as a way of raising ratables and lowering taxes for home and business owners. Will bringing hundreds or thousands of people to live there revive downtown? Englewood has tried that so far without success. Still, if taxes go down .... Hackensack is saddled with the hospital and other non-profits that shift the tax burden to you and me, so any way to add ratables is welcome. Another issue that hasn't been addressed is returning the city to what it was under the Zisas. Will that mean nepotism, higher taxes or what? Look at the schools. The Zisas still control that board.

On top of that 2% will be the hike for the $104 million Hackensack school budget, which hasn't been reported in The Record. You can find details on Eye on The Record. There is a school election on April 19 in which every resident can vote "yes" or "no" on the budget, but turnout has been extremely low in past years, even though school taxes are 44% of your total tax bill.

Hackensack Discussion / City Council meeting schedule
« on: August 04, 2015, 08:38:07 PM »
When City Council and COW meetings are postponed or rescheduled, leaving the schedule as is causes confusion. I looked at the schedule on Monday, and saw meetings scheduled for tonight. But the meetings were held on Monday night, and the city Web site claims to have posted a notice on the change. Maybe it's not prominent enough. And when you can't count on The Record coming through with next-day coverage, then the public loses an opportunity to be heard.

Hackensack Discussion / Re: Hackensack approves red-light cameras
« on: November 11, 2014, 09:51:21 AM »
You've all seen other drivers blowing through red lights, so why would you oppose red-light cameras? Most of the drivers who go through red lights are speeding, and they endanger others with how they drive. If it enriches Hackensack, that would be fantastic. As a property tax payer, whatever fine money goes to the city is sorely needed.

Speeding, aggressive driving and people driving through red lights and stop signs with total lack of regard for other drivers has become an epidemic, and police enforcement has generally declined, especially on the turnpike and parkway.

Locally, anything that can be done to stop this incredibly irresponsible behavior is welcome. Red-light cameras save lives. I don't understand the push back on this issue; these selfish people are laughing at the law and the drivers and pedestrians they endanger.

New York City has had red-light cameras for years for years. Why are they such a problem in New Jersey? The city just lowered its maximum speed limit to 25 mph and is targeting speeders. Why is New Jersey so behind the times?

And remember. Driving is a privilege, not a constitutional right. I say take away the privilege from repeat violators, and let them take the bus.

Great list.

How about turning The Record land, which is in a flood zone, into a Venetian theme park, complete with gondola rides to the Ling?

Wal-Mart already took a look at The Record's 19.7 acres for a Super Center, so I think the Costco site would be too small. Also, I patronize the Lowe's store in Paramus and it is far less busy than the Home Depot in Hackensack. Would another Lowe's make sense here?

I don't think such a 3-2 City Council is workable, not much will change and property taxes will keep on rising.

The Prospect Avenue Coalition should be aware of rumors that [Deleted by Editor. This is not a rumor mill. What Vsasson stated should be easily verified if he takes the time to do it. He can also post it on his own blog.]
