http://cgi.ebay.com/BROWNIES-THROUGH-UNION-Palmer-Cox-1895-14-STATES-/330577217144?pt=Antiquarian_Collectible&hash=item4cf7f00678

Description:

Fabulous Palmer Cox Brownie book features his endearing creatures taking a trip through the states of the union.

Keep in mind this was over 100 years ago, so some of the pictures reflect the times, making this book even more special than some of his other themes.

Brownies go through 14 states that inlcude New York, Rhode Island, Florida, Massachuesetts, New Jersey, Connecticut, Texas, Pennsylvanis, Illinois, Louisiana, Kentucky, Michigan, Washington and California.

See the Brownies visit the relatively "new" Statue of Liberty (dedicated in 1886), Golden Gate (bridge not built yet), Ticonderoga, Tarrytown, St. Augustine, orange orchards, Everglades, Boston Common, Plymouth Rock, Cambridge, Hackensack, New Haven, Charter Oak, the Wild West, oil wells, coal mines, harbors, swamps, cotton fields, horse races, mills, log jams, Seal Rock -- the list goes on and on -- a vertiable walk across America as it was in the late 19th century -- all through the eyes of the Brownies.

Hardcover book has age-appropriate wear with scuffed corners, covers, aging, etc. (see above).
Pages are intact with a couple of pages containing edge tears (about one inch).  Age spotting along page edges (see above).

All in all, the worn patina of this delightful book is one of its treasures.

If you love the Palmer Cox Brownies, you will want this book in your collection.

Seller has posted many images, but I have only posted the New Jersey one. I find it interesting that the image chosen 116 years ago for the New Jersey page was the Statue of Liberty.

Since the seller mentioned that the Brownies visited Hackensack, I asked him/her to email me a scan of that image/text. The reply indicated that that would happen. When it does, I'll post it.

Hackensack Discussion / Photos: The Sun, The Moon, and The Fog at 6AM
« on: June 18, 2011, 01:54:08 PM »
Some metal-on-metal truck noise woke me up at 5:40am.

Great.............4 hours of sleep for the second night in a row.

As I looked out the window to find the offender so I could throw something at him (long gone), I saw some fog and noticed that the sun was way over in a place I usually don't see it - rising over Sears.

Camera time.

Heading for the roof, I looked out another window and saw the moon dawdling near the First Presbyterian Church's weathervane.

The fog was interesting, as it put the trees in succeedingly-faint perspective. In one area, a blotch of bright red popped out - it was the "Learn To Skate At The Ice House" sign that's always on. Behind it to the right was the smokestack in Bogota.

The last picture is a 7-photo stitched image. Be sure to click it to enlarge and then scroll to the right.

1. Cloudy sunset

2. Wheels

3. I took this picture because of the lights coloring the wet pavement - never noticing the pink stretch limo at the credit union door.

4. Almost full moon. This is the best I've been able to come up with using my little Canon.

5. Sun shining on Bogota's version of a skyscraper. Sign is on Rt 80.

6. I posted this elsewhere on this site. I just like the fact that these fireworks were a couple of miles (and a couple of towns) away.

You must get some great shots from the roof around July 4th.

From the roof, I usually get to practice on the nearby towns' fireworks on the 1st, 2nd, and 3rd, and then shoot the Hackensack fireworks right in front of me from my living room on the 4th.

This is gonna be fun with the new camera.

Uhh............with 5,000 pictures taken in just under 4.5 months, maybe it's not so new anymore.

Actually, they finally got their act together last Tuesday, the 7th (see 6/8 post).

It only took them 12 days.

They were from Bergenfield's Family Day at Memorial Park on New Bridge Road. I got a couple of shots off from home, including the two below. The second one shows fireworks over Hackensack Ford on Hackensack Avenue.

Hackensack Discussion / Re: Sears gets a facelift
« on: June 12, 2011, 06:13:27 PM »
I wish they hadn't painted it.

It's worse than you think!

Here's what I saw this afternoon. It just doesn't look right.........something's missing.

Oh, I know!

It needs barbed-wire-topped fencing and a turret with machine guns and a searchlight instead of that annoying flag that has to be lowered and raised at inconvenient times.

It's the Sears maximum security facility! (shoplifters, beware!)
