Great shots...I remember that place, my dad used to go there. Right after that it became the liquor store right?
Right across the street from Hudson Drugs. Being a Hudson Street and then New Street resident everything we needed was on Hudson St in those days.

Did the Ford Pinto cause the fire? ???

Good Eye! (and memory)

And lots of wide open space behind it for someone to run right into the back of it and smash that puppy into flames :o

Funny too, the overhanging street lamp wasn't there in 85
-
The light was probably there, but two things could have made is seem to not be there:
1. The angle that the photo was taken could have cropped it out.
2. The Pinto had just knocked it down.

Also, I always liked the "older" style street signs we had. The more narrow dark blue metal with the white lettering, in a metal frame. They would age and get yellowish, the metal would start to rust...the signs would bend a bit on top of the post. When they started changing to the bigger blue signs with no frame I remember one on the corner or Vreeland Ave and Jackson Ave by Immaculate Conception Church was a long time hold out to be changed.
