Maybe we should terminate this discussion. As they say in the sheet piling / brick  sewer rebuilding business -- we don't want the editor to sheet a brick. He yelled at us once about making spectacles of ourselves.

We can always start up again when someone brings up sheetrock.

Too bad that you washed the bricks. You were lucky enough to have held two original WHITE MANNA sliders.

Let me sit on that for a while. I have some pressing business to get out of the way.

The "steel beams" are called sheet piles.

Looking at the photos, that type of brick arch construction dates back to the late 1800's.

Where was Tom Cruise when we needed him?!?!?
Last time I saw clouds like those was in the re-make of War Of The Worlds when ol' Tom was living under the Bayonne Bridge and managed to save the world.

The supermarket was in operation in August, 1976 and closed right thereafter. I don't know however how long the building was vacant until Eastern took it over.

Many moons ago the "Gino's property" on Essex Street was owned by a "character" named Irving Reingold. Back in the 1950's he operated an autmobile dealership at the site which was ultimately discontinued leaving the land vacant for many years until it was sold or leased to the fast food operation originally known as Gino's. This is the franchise started by Gino Marchetti of the Baltimore Colts professional football team.

Mr. Reingold was also the entrepreneur who operated the New Bell discotheteque on Route 4 East past the Coach House Diner which brought great notoriety to the City of Hackensack with the introduction of male strippers.

Try this:
Change the Lincoln Tunnel sign to the George Washington Bridge and you could be on the bus heading south on Route 17 while the stage coach is coming south on Forrest Avenue and making a right onto Route 4 west and heading out past Fair Lawn to pick up cookies at Nabisco.

Those two police officers in the sixth photo down are doing one hell of a job.

Regarding the Union Street School and it's forerunner,The Washington Institute, there are 2 plaques in the sidewalk on the west side of Main Street, north and south of Atlantic Street which show where the Institute was located and where it's headmaster resided. These buildings had been located there when Warren Street ran through to Main Street.

There is an answer to your query. About 20 +/- years ago a soft covered book was published  which contained the history of all the school buildings in Hackensack.
I am sure that a copy is available through the Bd. of Ed or at the Johnson Library.

Didn't Hackensack's version of Michael Jackson "do his thing" on the corner of Anderson St. and River St behind Sears? Could the rainbow be a message??

To put it in a gentlemanly manner, it appears that there may have been multiple violations of the Seventh Commandment as it pertains to this real estate transaction.
