I had never seen that bus terminal image before.  Very interesting. Where is that statue now?

I think it used to be by the Library. It's Chief Oratam.

Is that the Chief Oratam statue correctly in the entry to the Johnson Public Library.  If so, there's no tomahawk in his hand.

This picture was taken in 1945 in front of the Hackensack Municipal Bus Terminal.

(Tracy and his mom. Thanks Tracy.)

FYI: I'm told this is probably just a representation of a Lenape Native American, not Chief Oratam.

The statue is now in the Library.  Click to enlarge.  Sorry the second image is blurry.

A significant difference is that the two earlier photos of the statue show the subject's left foot resting on a rock and this rock appears to  be a part of a larger boulder. The library statue shows the left foot sitting on the same type of rock but the statue and rock are set on a metal pedestal. ???

Wow.  I didn't look closely. I just assumed it was the same because 4 or 5 people told me the statue was relocated to the Library.  Now we have a mystery. Even better.

Two clues below from the April 4, 1938 City Council meeting minutes and July 16, 2001 City Council meeting minutes.

"Mott’s “#53 Indian Chief"
"The statue of Lawrence the Indian was originally a carving done by wood carver Samuel Anderson Robb about 1860 for William Demuth who was the leading cigar store Indian peddler. Demuth published a catalog of his wares; and in 1872, “Lawrence” is listed as “No. 53 Indian Chief.” In 1873, the J.L. Mott Iron Works purchased the design and listed him for $500 in their catalog of statuary."
