Unused/undated - probably 19-teens/20s. The Second Reformed Church is in the background. On the right is a house where my apartment building is. The church was built around 1910 and my building was built around 1928.

Is there running water for the apartments located in that area?

Yes. The problem is with a sewer pipe - not a water pipe.

It's now a week later and even LESS is happening..............like ZERO. The last piece of heavy equipment was hauled away yesterday. I know there's a lot of work still to be done and I would think that it would be in everyone's best interest to get this road open ASAP, but................

What could be the cause of the delay? Negotiations? Waiting for parts? Start of the football season?

Photos from today:

1. Nada

2. Oh wait.........there WERE some new additions! Bags of clothing and mattresses! Anybody wanna speculate about that?

Seller's description:

Going up for auction is my small collection of New Jersey Chapter Pennies. This one is the "Bergen Chapter # 40, RAM"  Hackensack, N.J. Chartered June 18th, 1895. Other side has keystone and member's unique symbol, a fancy letter "R" engraved in the center. Copper, 32 mm. Condition is Fine to Very Fine, with nice chocolate patina. Listed as King # 4131. Check the scan and bid accordingly. This is a great opportunity to add to your own New Jersey collection, or specific Chapter.  See my other Chapter Pennies going on ebay. If you have any questions, please email me at RJerseyDevil@aol.com. I collect Toms River, NJ and other Ocean County NJ items.

It is difficult to acquire these Chapter Pennies because the members of the Fraternity cherish them highly, and do not part with them in their lifetime. The Mark Penny is inscribed with the member's own particular "mark" and placed on record, never to be changed. It remains his "mark" until the day of his death.  The manufactured tokens are made in various metals, silver, copper, bronze, aluminum, etc.

Title says "King # 4040" and the description says "King # 4131"...............?

GOOGLE "WOODEN NICKLES" and you can have the song added as a ringtone on your cell phone.
That's what Ol' Homer calls progress over 80 years -- from rectangular nickles in 1939 to wooden nickles on your cell phone.

Where's that 1907 Cobb & Edwards hickory stick............?

When you Google "wooden nickles", it correctly asks you:

"Did you mean: "wooden nickels?"

And when you add 80 years to 1939, you get 2019.

School days, school days,
Dear old golden rule days.
'Readin' and 'ritin' and 'rithmetic,
Taught to the tune of a hick'ry stick.

I hate to say it, but these "nickels" are a dime a dozen.

Things appear to have slowed down considerably, but I don't know why. I'm told there was yet another collapse of old brick pipe closer to Main St and that whatever they did before at the other collapse points will have to be repeated at the new one.

I hadn't heard any noise during the afternoon and took a walk over there at about 3:15. It was like a ghost town.

Picture 1: that block of Anderson St now probably looks much like it did when the brick pipes were put in - a dirt road.......minus the horse "bricks".

Pictures 2 and 3: there's now a temporary above-ground black sewer line that bypasses the work area (and probably helps to let things dry out underground). This line runs along the south curb from near Union St almost to Main St.

Picture 4: the Second Reformed Church word-plays about having their own "problem", but has a better solution (I don't think you'd want to look for any messages inside the broken sewer pipe).
