Hackensack Discussion / Re: Halloween, Cabbage Night, etc.
« on: October 31, 2019, 07:12:22 AM »
In the late 70's and early 80's me and my friends from our end of town would hang out under Rt 80 and throw eggs at the 165 buses going by. Then we'd make our way up to Indian Lake in Little Ferry and we'd war with the LF kids...the trees would be filled with toilet paper, broken eggs everywhere...a real juvenile disaster! At some point Valley Fair stopped selling eggs to kids on Cabbage night! haha

Thanks Bob, I just saw it...and no relation to me haha
My future father in law worked there prior to opening La Bella Napoli pizza on Essex St, we were talking about it yesterday but I didn't remember it

Hi gang, this was a little before my time I'm guessing...anyone remember a little place behind Solari's (or somewhere in that area) named Hook Fin, or something to that effect?

I'm just curious if anyone reads this....was there a murder in Staib Park once? Or someone found dead there? I thought I heard something along those lines once

So Saturday evening we were a little early for Lido's to open (yes, another trip...and I picked up the phone this time, NO dial tone!) A little cruise way uptown by Staib Park I found another one.

As a really big and long time fan of the Masters myself I wish there was more footage of that lineup...I knew Daniel Rey casually many years ago and he mentioned to me that playing with Baker was a highlight in his career. Funny coincidence relating to Hackensack as well, there was a studio in the 90's called Big Blue Meenie (now in Jersey City I think, formerly out of a house on Davis Ave), but the owners were from Syracuse (where the Masters) hailed from. The one owner was a drummer, and had a chance to join the Masters but declined. The spot was filled by Baker.

Although I haven't been in that (or any) Sears in many years, the Hackensack one along with the Library (to me) seem to be the last anchors of my Hackensack upbringing. At least we still have Lido and B-W Bakery right? Those don't seem to be going anywhere

Hi gang, went there on Saturday...happy to report everything is basically the same. Bathrooms seemed to get a bit of a face lift, and now there's a bar inside the tucked away dining area. But the food was just as good, of course got the small thin crust pizza appetizer, followed by the classic open face steak sandwich. It wasn't as crowded as I thought it would be, four of us at 6:00 pm on Saturday sat right down. As soon as I walked in, I was happy to see that one thing was STILL there!

I was in BT in those years but for the life of me I can't remember that concert  :o

Now THAT"S a Caddy! When I worked at Feldner we'd get something of that era in every once in awhile...such great cars

Chilton has free parking, as well as Holy Name. St Joseph's in Paterson also charges for parking. Come to think of it I've made too many hospital visits lately  :o
