I really don't understand how snowfall has become an emergency that FEMA has to bail out. Last year, southern NJ counties failed to budget properly for snow removal, and Gov. Christie made sure they were bailed out, so it seems that all the other municipalities in the state jumped on board.
I wonder what the "taxpayers" are saving vs. paying for in auto insurance claims, car repairs, and injuries.
Hackensack is an absolute mess. I know the December storm was big, but for weeks after, the snow was left in the streets, and is now covered by more snow and ice. There is no parking, and most city (not county) roads are down to one lane/one direction at a time.
The city manager claimed that plowing couldn't be done because of parked cars. I wonder if the police department suspended issuing summonses on cars parked on street sweeping days? Does anyone know?
There are many, many streets that have not been plowed to the curb despite no parking any time or no parking on certain days and hours.
This has gone way beyond an inconvenience. It is a real danger that we seem to be stuck with until it all thaws in the spring.
