HACKENSACK — A one-block section of Main Street is closed to traffic as workers repair a water main that broke this morning and flooded the basements of a few businesses.
The water main burst on Main between Passaic and Ward streets shortly after 2:30 a.m., Jonathan Sklar, who owns two businesses on the block, said.
Sklar said he was awoken by a call from the fire department about the water main break. He rushed to the area and has been pumping out the water that had spilled into his buildings.
“Water was flying out of the gutters, the curbs, the sidewalks,” he said.
The basement of one of the businesses, EmbroidMe, filled with two feet of water, he said. He has not been able to assess the damage.
