HACKENSACK — Members of the Varick Memorial A.M.E. Zion Church marked the culmination of a monthlong celebration of their 150-year history on Sunday as inspiration for spiritual work yet to be done.
“Yes, Lord, this church has been blessed with 150 years,” the Rev. Dr. Melanie Miller said to the congregation of more than 125 people. “We’re putting our future in your hands, knowing that the next 150 years will be blessed by you.”
Throughout the past month, Miller said, the church has held events honoring the long history of the church, the oldest of its kind in Bergen County.
