Want to look up Bergen County land records on your smartphone? Well, now there's an app for that.

The County Clerk's Office is rolling out five programs this week aimed at enabling anyone to look up documents without having to make a trip to Hackensack, including one that works on a mobile device.

Bergen County Clerk John Hogan, above, and his team digitized millions of documents that are now searchable on a smartphone app and also through the county clerk's website.

"Now you can search from the comfort of your home without having to spend an hour or two here," Hogan said last week from his office at the county administration building during a demonstration of the new programs.

The online programs include:

• Searchable land records such as deeds and mortgages. Previously, residents and title company employees had to first look up those records on a computer in the clerk's office and then go to a book to look up the underlying document.

Now, they can go to bergencountyclerk.org instead and click on "land records," then "land records search" and then "guest login." The online database has images of deeds going back to 2004 and mortgage documents going back to 2007.
