2016 Fireworks: HACKENSACK (+1)
« on: July 05, 2016, 03:30:14 PM »
I wonder how many people were checking various weather sources last night to see if the rain would hold off until after the fireworks, which were scheduled to start at 9:15pm. I kept checking the local animated
Nexrad weather map on and it wasn't looking good. The leading edge of the rain seemed to be almost right on us at 8:45. At 8:50, I saw people headed
toward Foschini Park using umbrellas.............uh, oh.

I was all ready to head out on the roof at 9:00, but the fireworks suddenly started at 8:55 - 20 minutes early.

Good move.

The drizzle was light, but I couldn't have my camera getting wet, so I ditched the roof plan and put the tripod a few feet away from a slightly-opened window in my living room - it worked great and I'm happy with the results.

I could see Leonia's fireworks in the distance to the left (first pic), but didn't bother with them. I also saw some cars parked in the driving lane of the municipal parking lot behind my building - all facing east to watch what they could of the show (and stay dry).

After the display was finished around 9:15, I looked to Manhattan to see if the Macy's fireworks in the East River were visible, but I couldn't eve see Manhattan. A few minutes later, it cleared enough to see the city's lights and a bit of the fireworks (top half of last image). THIRTY-SEVEN SECONDS later, I took the bottom half pic. You can see that the rain was already moving in fast.

That was the last shot I got because a few seconds later, nothing was visible.
