If the store ever closes, I wonder if this building might make a good candidate for school expansion. I heard that the school district was once interested in the old Arnold Constable Building for Pre-K through 3rd. In the end, Bergen Community College bought it. Lost opportunity.

Did you read the first sentence? ("...the corporate owner is pointing pointing to online shopping...")

https://www.fool.com/investing/2017/07/20/why-sears-soared-today-and-best-buy-lowes-and-home.aspx

"The market may be fearing that this is a first step in a growing partnership between Amazon and Sears as the e-commerce giant could potentially use Sears cavernous stores as staging areas for fast delivery, for example."

The city would be smart to create a Planned Unit Development (PUD) for the Sears property, with a density bonus exceeding the current zoning for the main lot, and their parking lot on the east side of River Street should be transferred to the City of Hackensack and added to Johnson Park, at no cost. This is legal, it can be done.

People think that parking lot is part of the park. It is not. It would be an ugly jolt to the City of Hackensack if that parking lot was ever developed. Now is the time for smart planning on this one.

SEARS has filed for bankruptcy

How will we ever live without this store that nobody goes to?

Maybe this one will survive, but if not, what would you like to see take over the building? Amazon? HUMC? Maybe the Family Dollar store across the street will expand to serve the new residents of the current 435 Main project next door and the nearby 389 Main project (and maybe the sun will be green tomorrow).
