As you saw above, this event took place on Sunday, October 1, 2017 at the Stateline Lookout in Alpine.
I got there early, but still had to park on the road leading into the lookout area because the lots were already full.
It was a beautiful day for the event, but my only problem was that it was held in an open-sides tent, which limited the natural sunlight on the birds that I had shot with the last time I was there in 2011. This meant I had to use the flash.
I grabbed a seat in the fifth row on the center aisle because I knew that the presenter - Bill Streeter from the Delaware Valley Raptor Center - would be walking up and down the aisle while he held the birds and talked about them.
1. Before the show, I saw the Tappan Zee Bridge up the Hudson. I probably shot this the last time I was there, but this time it had a friend standing beside it - the new Governor Mario Cuomo Bridge - which just opened and replaces the aging Zee. This was a shot to get now because it won't be available in the near future when the Zee is dismantled.
2. This is the smallest raptor - the kestrel - which I took as Bill walked down the center aisle and stopped by me.
3. Bill gets an earful from a peregrine falcon.
4. When Bill walked down the center aisle with the falcon, I could see all the people - many of them children - turning around to look at the bird. This was a shot worth getting.
5. This is what an adult red-tailed hawk looks like - unlike my old yellow-eyed friend, Hammy.
6&7. A Great Horned Owl
8. This is a Saw-whet owl - the smallest owl.
9.&10. A Golden eagle - the show's closing headliner
11. After the show, I saw a couple of turkey vultures cruising the skies.
12. A Hudson River Line train across the river reflects a bit of sunlight as it heads south to Manhattan.
