You know you're old when your building has a noun in its name - in my case, the Park Lane.
I realize that "River" is a noun, but this place is referred to as "The Current" - similar to "The Modern" in Fort Lee. I predict this trend will end when they run put of positive adjectives and the final structure in this line of building will be named "The Adjective"..............and it will be roundly criticized because "adjective" is a noun. Looking ahead, you may want to invest in adverb futures.
When this project was first announced, I couldn't imagine where on River St it might be, never thinking of the lot on which the Oritani Field Club was located, because the OFC's address was on the side street: E. Camden St. I guess the thinking now is why face a college and a library when you can face a Toyota dealership?
Maybe after they're all settled in, the well-off tenants will decide they don't want car dealerships across the street and THAT will be the spark that eventually gets rid of the automotive side of River St, beautifying the area and making the river more accessible.
It could happen.
Meanwhile, from my apartment, I had seen and heard piledrivers in that vicinity and drove over there last week to see if something was going up on the OFC site. My "a-HA!" moment occurred when I saw the "Current on River" sign, so I walked around the block and took some pictures - something I may do from time to time to stay Current on River (groan!).
The images are shown pretty much in the order I took them, except for the last picture, which is a 2-photo stitch. The third from the last image brings to mind a certain 1995 "trial of the century".
