Sometime after midnight early last Saturday morning, I heard something that sounded like a crash, but couldn't see anything. A little later, I saw lots of emergency lights reflecting off buildings in the vicinity of Main and Ward, but couldn't see any vehicles because the building on the SW corner of State and Ward blocked the view.
I went out on my roof to the northernmost edge and could see:
1. Two police vehicles, a fire engine, an ambulance and some dark car that was partially-obscured by the ambulance.
2. Once the ambulance left, a police car replaced it, but I could see the damaged front end of the car.
3. As a tow truck pulled the car onto its flatbed, the heavily-indented guardrail came into view.
4. After a quick cleanup, everyone left and I did a long exposure at 2am and made it a black-and-white.
5. Later that morning, I went to the scene for a closeup of the guardrail that saved the 395 Main hole in the ground.
I’m guessing the driver was another resident who’s even more unhappy than me about having his/her cherished view of something taken away soon by this project.
What a protest! I’m glad I didn’t think of it.
