HACKENSACK MAIN STREET BUSINESS ALLIANCE EMBARKS ON DISTRICT IMPROVEMENTS

The Main Street Business Alliance of Hackensack has recently announced that several programs have been established and are now up and running. The organization has created a Clean and Green program and has contracted with the Atlantic Maintenance Corp. out of Brooklyn, New York. This is a full service maintenance company that will provide supplemental sanitation to the district such as graffiti removal, pressure cleaning, trash receptacle maintenance, and sidewalk and street cleaning. The Atlantic Maintenance Corp. is currently providing these services which will greatly improve the cleanliness of our sidewalks, curbs, street furniture and storefronts by implementing strong management and supervision says Executive Director of the Main Street Business Alliance, Leo Pflieger. Pflieger states to date the company has painted all street furniture and guard rail along the Sears property line. They have also painted fire hydrants, meter poles, phone booths, removed garbage and debris along the railroad tracks, power washed graffiti in several areas within the district, removed weeds from the sidewalks and mulched all tree pits. Pflieger says these services will be followed by weekly maintenance consisting of a work force of two men, eight hours a day, Monday, Wednesday and Friday.

In conjunction with this program the Traffic Division of the Hackensack Police Department has painted all crosswalks and handicap parking spaces within the district.

The Main Street Business Alliance has met with Hackensack Post Office representatives and they have come to an agreement that the Post Office will replace all existing mail boxes with refurbished and newly painted boxes.

The organization has finalized their planter program which has lined all intersections between Mercer Street and Euclid Avenue with 38 decorative terra cotta planters. This contract was awarded to Green Earth Landscaping and Design of Hackensack, N.J. The Chairman of the Main Street Business Alliance, Jerry Lombardo, owner of C.J. Lombardo Co., says that these planters are an excellent way to bring visual enhancement to the district as we are trying to create a more shopper friendly environment. He mentions that this will be the responsibility of the newly hired maintenance company to maintain and water these planters on a regular basis.

The Marketing Committee of the Main Street Business Alliance has been working hard over the last several months as they have interviewed several marketing companies and have recently hired the E. Fitz Art Graphic Studio of Hackensack, N.J. and LJS Communications of Ramsey, N.J. to spearhead its public awareness campaign to bring new businesses and patrons to Hackensack's upper Main Street. These companies are collaborating on the development of logos, slogans and corporate colors for the organization. The Marketing Chairman, Ed Decker, of Musically Yours, says that these companies were selected following an extensive search and interview process. Decker says they offer extensive experience in developing marketing programs that generate excitement and enthusiasm. We are thrilled to have them lead this effort for us. The organization has also contracted with Power Page of Rockaway Township, NJ and Translations Plus of Hackensack, NJ to create a bi-lingual website.

The Main Street Business Alliance manages the special improvement district in an area that stretches from Euclid Avenue to Mercer Street. The organization was formed this year to enhance the commercial viability, development and attractiveness of Main Street by providing coordinated promotion, management, business retention, recruitment, capital improvements, and other services to business owners, merchants, and property owners.
