Blaze damages Mexican eatery

The blaze, believed to be electrical in origin, severely damaged Potrero Grill at 16 E. Mercer St. A contractor removed part of a collapsing roof Sunday and a city building inspector will examine the tiny structure to determine its fate, Fire Chief Joel Thornton said.

I feel badly for Felix, Javier and the rest of the Potrero crew.

I absolutely love this place.  I meet with friends there at least once a week.  Potrero serves the best Mexican food in Bergen County,-  by far.  I sincerely hope they do what needs to be done to re-open.  The restaurant is a key ingredient to the cultural mix that is Main Street.  To lose it would be very sad.  Potrero developed a strong following over the years and I'm sure their loyal customers would patiently wait for their doors to open again.

Buena Suerte, Potrero!

By the way, the building is an historic landmark.  It used to be a railroad station for the Susquehanna.  Here it is in 1914:

I remember a bar there when I was a boy. I think it was called "Porky O'Shea's". Is that correct?
