Yes, journalism today is not what it used to be.  It was similar lazy, and unconfirmed writing in the County Seat Newspaper.

Hackensack Discussion / Re: Tennis courts

That is an excellent question.  As a little kid, it was my understanding that the tennis courts were city property with the school having first dibs on its use.  When the school wasn't using it, it was to be opened to the public.

Even if NJ legalized marijuana, it would seem that it would still be binding.  Cigarettes are legal and they are banned.

Is there a lobby?  If so, how many people do you estimate that lobby will hold?

Here we are again getting ready for a major snow storm.  Where will we put the snow?  The storms are coming too fast and too close together.  The weather is so cold that none of it is melting.  There is difficulty in getting salt. Watching the news and reading the newspapers, many towns in Bergen have the same problems.

Yes, Denver fans who bet on Denver and now have no money to pay for the train ride and so, they are being booted off that train!

Hackensack Discussion / Re: Hackensack Human Services Dept.
« on: December 01, 2013, 04:26:21 PM »
I believe you misunderstood my statement. I am aware that the transfer of the Human Services Department was in the making in advance of the Brady situation.  I have previously expressed my opinion regarding that transfer.

My statement regarding Mrs. Toomey was that she was vilified for simply doing her job.  If she had done differently, she would have been vilified for changing the rules.

With regard to the my statement in respect to the payout for unused sick and vacation days, does not speak only to Mrs. Toomey, but to all employees.  It was a legal payment.  In the future, those payments should be limited.

While I strongly support the current administration, I believe this is simply not a good move.  Also, while I have not met Mrs. Toomey, I believe that she was unfairly given the blame for doing her job.  She was put in a "damned if you do, damned if you don't situation.

However, I do not believe that employees should be reimbursed for excessive amounts of unused sick and vacation days. The current rules regarding reimbursement does not make the payment illegal.   I hope that this administration will restrict the amount of days that may be carried over into the next year.  Like most businesses, a use it or lose it standard should be set.

I was asking if this survey of cities was an independent study. I am also asking if every city was surveyed.  I don't know that answer.

I agree that Garfield should not be ranked above Hackensack. It makes me suspicious of how the study came to the conclusions it made.

As far as the high school.  I think the claim is absurd and misleading.

Is this a completely independent study or is it similar to the high school's top 2500 in the country which was a form filled out by 2500 hundred high schools in the nation and Hackensack ranked 1500?  That was determined through a survey that only 2500 schools chose to fill out.  The other 200,000 plus high schools in the nation did not fill out and send the form back.  Focus school.  I want to give credit to Hackensack High.  They offer much more advanced placement courses than most high schools in Bergen as well as the State of NJ.  However, more needs to be done to meet closing those achievement gaps that is mentioned as a goal on the schools website.  That gap has grown increasingly wider.

If the Board has just a little bit of a moral conscious, they will pay the City for the School Resource Officer.  They have  the $1,000,000 dollars there.
